Caps: ask for the adjustment range
Record your measurement method and compare it with the listing's stated inner circumference range. Ask whether that range comes from the actual cap or a generic chart, and whether the closure has fixed positions.
Request front, side and back views, including the adjuster and inside band. Crown height, brim length and shape may affect your preference. A model photo cannot establish how the cap sits on your head.
Jewelry: keep size systems and units explicit
For a ring, identify whether the source gives inner diameter, inner circumference or a named ring-size system. Do not compare the numbers directly without resolving the system. For a chain, record the overall length, any extender length and whether the clasp is included.
For earrings or other small pieces, request dimensions and the exact fastening type. A magnified product image can make a small object look much larger than it is. Keep a measurement reference in the photo where possible.
What close-up photos can and cannot tell you
| Visible detail | Still needs separate evidence |
|---|---|
| Clasp or adjuster shape | How reliably it opens, closes and holds under use. |
| Surface color and markings | Metal composition, coating thickness or authenticity. |
| Labeled dimensions | Whether the selected variant was measured using that method. |
| Seams and attachment points | Durability under repeated wear. |
Do not infer skin compatibility or material safety from appearance. If material identity matters to your decision, obtain item-specific documentation before proceeding.
